INFORMAT

Intelligent Forest Management Technologies

The main objective of INFORMAT is the promotion of the forest while acting on the prevention and decrease of the forest susceptibility to wildfires. Our initiative aims at:

      – making forest management fast, efficient and profitable;
      – reducing the workers risks and hazards;
      – do clever biomass management according to the specific characteristics of each location;
      – multiply the work through the use of technological tools instead of an increase in human labor force.

Our team combines the expertise of well-known researchers in the fields of robotics, environment and forest fires, with the experience of key players in the forest management sector.

01

PROBLEM

Current forest management and vegetation cutting is done using manual tools or human operated machines. These inefficient tools make this activity expensive and time-consuming, while also representing a danger to the operators.

02

CHALLENGE

Making forest management fast, efficient and profitable, while reducing the workers risks and hazards; do clever biomass management according to the specific characteristics of each location, to take the best advantage and value from the natural resources available; multiply the work through the use of technological tools instead of an increase in human labor force.

03

OUR APPROACH

The INFORMAT aims at the development and use of multipurpose teams of robotic forest mobile platforms with semi-autonomous operation capabilities, for clearing the bush and creating fuel breaks. These teams of robots work under the supervision of a single human operator, allowing the optimization of human and technological resources. The possibility of controlling the whole process from a distance increases the worker’s comfort and greatly decreases the risks of injuries.

This approach allows to vastly increase the efficiency and speed of forest management activities, while reducing their cost. It also acts on the promotion and widespread of wildfire prevention measures.
